Dolphin Junction & The Eighth Detective – Book Review Quick Takes

In 2022 my goal is to write brief reviews of all the books I read. Here’s to a good year of reading!

Dolphin Junction by Mick Herron

I’d read most of these stories previously in various other places but enjoyed dipping back into them in this collection.

Diving into some dark places, Herron explores broken relationships and how they can cross over into crime. The highlights are stories where he figures out how to balance his humor with the darker elements.

The Eighth Detective by Alex Pavesi

I started out 2022 with this fun and clever twist on the detective novel. Functioning as both a commentary on mystery fiction and a mystery itself, it never felt like it was trying too hard.

Made up of a series of short stories connected to an overarching story it was just the right length and how they all tied together was immensely satisfying.
