So glad to have you back Jeff! Great discussion. In episode one, the Shirley/Marcus/Roddy thing was slightly different from the book but it worked perfectly – hilarious, and it really set up Shirley’s edgy character and made Marcus and her much more a duo, which had been rather missing from series 2.
I thought episode three in this series was The Best Ever!! Lovely to see a bit more of Hobbs – the rather dim Attack Dog. And Duffy really deserves what’s coming to him (in the book anyway) Making use of Spider that way was a perfect plot solution and I salute the changes – it all ties together so well, yet kept true to the spirit. (And gave us a chance to enjoy Freddy Fox’s brilliant turn again as slimy Spider!) I want to watch it ALL. NOW. But I don’t want it to stop!

Thanks again for your podcast. I love the recap and discussion. I do disagree just a little on your take on River though. You say he has all the wrong instincts. I think (at least as portrayed in the show) that the problem is he has the right instincts and ignores them. For example, he had a twinge that the rude dude that bumped into him was trouble for Catherine, but he ignored it because he was too busy pouting. The guy registered with him enough that he could give a description. I think that’s why Lamb both is willing to put up with him and also is so angry with him.

And your guest discussing episode 3 was spot on about what Lamb’s odor must be. It makes my nose itch just to look at him. Which is probably what he wants. Keeps him from having to deal with people.
